The Barber Family

Why did you choose LCA for your child?

“Ultimately, we believe God and LCA chose us, but it was the University Model, flexibility and small population that sold us. We embraced the opportunity to cultivate our children’s development while still offering them the social aspect of attending school with their peers.”

We are so excited to have so many wonderful families be a part of our family here at Lanier Christian Academy.   Please continue reading below or to see other stories you can click here.

–What do you love most about LCA?

We love LCA’s holistic approach to developing each aspect of the students. The school addresses their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. Our family refers to this as spiritual-natural balance. Yes, LCA is a Christian school in the same they are sure to address life needs and circumstances as well. I can recall one of our youngest son’s first assignments was envisioning himself as an adult. He was encouraged to illustrate how he viewed himself and what his life encompassed, I thought to myself, WOW that’s so powerful! I also appreciate the intentionality and prayer that is dedicated to preparing the students and the well thought out plans especially during Covid, which protected and guided the students and parents to success. It takes a village and partnership!

–What is one word that best describes the school? Tell us why you chose that word.

We asked our eldest to share one word that best describes LCA and without hesitation, he said…COMMUNITY! Its funny because that’s the exact word that came to mind when I ponder on the question. LCA is a family community, we are blessed to “do life” with one another. We care for one another, and we treat the children like our own because they are! This proved to be true during our recent middle school basketball championship as an adult male heckled our son during the game and before it was all said and done, that gentleman had the entire LCA family to contend with. Charles and I didn’t have to say a word. The LCA community has been one of the best attributes of the school. WE love LCA!

–In what ways have you seen your child grow and develop as a result of their experience at LCA?

Lanier has been a key component to our sons’ growth. The Barber boys have matured in ways that continue to make us proud. One of the most notable transformations has been the development of personal accountability and time management. Now, I didn’t say the transformation has been easy or that we have arrived; however, it has been rewarding to see the results of our partnership with the teachers and LCA leadership. Holding the guys to a standard in our home and having the same expectation at the school has paid off in big ways! We’re happy to say, the fellas continue to progress daily!

–How is LCA preparing your child for college and beyond?

The University Model offers college preparation based on the accelerated curriculum and the 3-day school week. While Mekhi and Xavier foresee college in their future, we also appreciate LCA for recognizing and normalizing that every student may not attend college. With that truth in mind, Lanier offers resources and an action plan that leads the student to identify their personal success.

–What would you tell another parent to encourage them to consider enrolling their child at LCA?

I tell all my friends, they will LOVE LCA and everything about it! From the faith-based curriculum and high level of academic excellence to the LCA leadership, teachers, students, and their remarkable parents. The school has reasonable yet high expectations for the students. They will hold them accountable while illuminating a path that can lead to the students’ success. Partnering with the Lanier Christian Academy is a WIN-WIN for the kingdom, the student, their family and our community!
